Description
Within the pages of Fortuna lies proof of what many mystics have whispered for centuries: each tarot reading follows an immutable pattern. Past flows to present, present flows to future—not by chance, but by cosmic law. Through years of solitary study, a reclusive 18th century prophet discovered these patterns. These charts, known as the Seer's Code, reveal the predestined path that lies ahead for anyone who consults them.
The performer invites their participant to experience this ancient system firsthand. The participant's hands guide the Major Arcana through a series of truly legitimate shuffles, each movement breathing life into the cards. Three tarot cards emerge—each a portal into the hidden pathways of their past, present, and future. This ritual is designed to imbue their life and soul into the tarot, ensuring that their cards are truly aligned with their innermost self.
When they reveal their past card, the mystic consults the pages of Fortuna, where the meaning of this specific card in the past position is written. The present card follows, with Fortuna revealing its significance, tracing the story of their current path. But before the final card is turned—before their destined future is revealed—the fortune teller opens the Seer's Code. Within these pages lies every possible combination of past and present cards, each marked with its own mysterious number that hints at deeper layers of cosmic synchronicity. When consulted alongside other factors, such as the participant's sex, these mystic charts illuminate the exact path that lies ahead—as if each and every choice has been fed into this metaphysical machine that perfectly computes their destiny.
The participant turns over their final card—one they freely selected through multiple legitimate shuffles—and impossibly, inexplicably, it perfectly mirrors the future foretold by the Seer's Code. In this moment, they glimpse a profound truth: that our lives follow patterns woven into the very fabric of the universe, that our paths are shaped by forces beyond our understanding, waiting to be revealed through ancient wisdom.
And so, once again, the powers of Fortuna are proven—its pages a testament to the enduring mystery that connects the seen and unseen worlds.
But this is merely the first whisper of Fortuna's true potential. Within its pages lie secrets far beyond a single reading—keys to unlocking the deepest mysteries of fate, love, dreams, and the intricate design that governs all human experience. All of which will be unlocked as more volumes of The Enigma Collection emerge.
Fortuna, at present, connects with Volume 2: Somnium to create an all-new effect. It does however, also stand alone.
Included in the manual are complete, word-for-word script examples that enable you to give powerful readings using just the Major Arcana and Fortuna - no prior knowledge of tarot required. These examples cover both traditional past, present, and future readings, as well as focused readings that examine a specific situation through time. You can begin giving these readings immediately.
You'll also discover how to naturally weave these three aspects into meaningful narratives that bring insight and resolution to your participant's questions. The method allows for different cards to appear in each reading, creating unique experiences every time. While specific card examples are provided in the effect description below, the technique works with any combination of cards the method produces.
The volumes are crafted at 4.5 x 7.5 inches with approximately 100 pages - an intentionally chosen size that sits between pocket and standard formats, making them both impressive and practical for real-world use.

The Central Effect, as Extracted from the Manual
The fortune teller places an old book on the table with careful reverence. "I need to show you something," he says softly. "Something I've only shown a few people."
His fingers trace the worn cover. "I found this in an old book store. At first, I thought it was just another book about the cards. Meanings, interpretations... the usual fortune-telling."
He opens it briefly, letting his participant glimpse the dense charts and graphs filling its pages, before closing it again. "The person who wrote this... they discovered something. Something about destiny. About patterns that shouldn't be possible."
The fortune teller brings out the Major Arcana, handling them with the same careful attention he'd shown the book. "We'll need these to prove it. The Major Arcana. Twenty-two cards that most readers use for glimpsing possible futures."
"Usually, you'd just cut them like this. Past, present, future. Simple. But what's in this book... it's different. A ritual that lets you do more than just glimpse what might be. It lets you prove what must be."
After gathering the piles, he extends the deck to her. "Take these cards," he says. "But before you touch them..." He opens the book to a page filled with instructions. "Read these words. Every word matters. Every movement has purpose."
As she begins to freely shuffle according to the instructions, his voice grows more intent. "What you're doing right now... you're not just mixing cards. You're setting something in motion. Something that was discovered centuries ago, when someone started noticing patterns that couldn't be explained. Patterns that shouldn't exist."
When the dealing is complete, he looks at the three cards lying before them. "We'll turn over two of them," he explains. "But that last card... that glimpse of your future... we need to leave it waiting. Because before you turn it over, I need to show you something that will change how you understand destiny itself."
"Let's begin with your past," he says.
She turns over The Hermit.
"The Hermit... the eternal seeker," he says, opening the book. "Read what it says about this card in the past position."
After she reads the meaning aloud, he nods slowly. "Hold onto that feeling. That moment of solitude, of searching. Because it's part of something bigger."
"Now your present moment..." he prompts.
The Chariot appears under her fingers.
"The Chariot. Will. Purpose. Direction. Read its meaning..."
After she finishes reading, his manner changes subtly. "But that third card..." he says, his voice dropping. "Before you turn it... there's something you need to see."
He opens the book to a different section, handling the pages as if they might crumble at any moment. "These charts. They're why I had to show you this book. Look..."
The pages turn slowly. "Years of recordings. Thousands of readings. Until patterns emerged. Patterns that challenge everything we think we know about chance, about choice..."
"Find your cards here," he guides. "The Hermit in your past... The Chariot in your present... in the section for women, yes."
Her finger traces the charts until she finds the combination.
"What do you see?" he asks. "According to these patterns... according to laws that have held true for centuries... what card must come next?"
"The Wheel of Fortune," she reads.
His voice grows quieter still. "Think about what this means. That last card - the one still waiting face down - you landed on it freely. Through multiple shuffles of the cards. Through every random choice that led to this moment."
He closes the book with deliberate weight. "But if these patterns are real... if these laws still hold... then it can only be The Wheel of Fortune. It must be. As if every shuffle, every choice, every moment of your life was leading you here. To this exact moment. To this inevitable truth."
The silence stretches between them.
"Are you ready?" he asks at last. "Ready to see if randomness is an illusion? If destiny still speaks through these cards the way it has for centuries?"
Her hand moves toward the final card.
"Turn it over," he whispers.
At this point, once the amazement and any ensuing interactions fully settle, you can look up the meaning of their future card and bring closure to the experience using one of the many techniques from the example readings.
